If you’ve been keeping up with social media trends, then it’s no secret organic reach is decreasing drastically. Many researchers and news outlets report this is due to algorithms constantly changing.
This seems like an impossible barrier to overcome. If social media outlets keep changing their algorithms, how are we supposed to keep up with and adapt to these changes? However, there are steps you can take to get more people to see your content.
1. Create Content Catered to Each Platform
Don’t simply repost your Facebook post onto Instagram. It’s easy to do, but it’s also incredibly lazy. Instead, tailor your content to each social media outlet.
After all, didn’t we just say algorithms are constantly changing? This means each platform’s algorithm runs differently. For example, Facebook recently announced its plans to show content from your friends and family first on your timeline. Instagram, on the other hand, is all about giving your followers a behind-the-scenes look of your brand.
By making specific content for every one of your social media accounts, you can better learn what tactics work. Like we’ve said before, what works for Instagram may not be as successful on Twitter. Learn the language of each outlet and know how to draw in their different audiences.
2. Investing is Okay
Although the idea of backing your content with money is not necessarily “organic,” it can help your engagement drastically. Advertisements and sponsored/boosted posts can not only help build awareness around your brand, but it can also help you build a fan base. By putting money behind your content, you’re increasing the chances of it getting seen.
This can help increase your organic reach in the end, too. Paying to promote content successfully to your target audience can help you draw in new followers, which means more people may end up seeing your content organically in the future.
3. Keep at it!
A decrease in any sort of result can be discouraging, but it is important to stay dedicated to your work. An easy way to increase your organic reach is to post consistently. Don’t give your audience the chance to forget who you are. This will not only keep you on their radar, but they may eventually come to expect content from you.
4. Don’t Post Just to Post
On the other hand, you still want to put significant thought and effort into what you are publishing. When cultivating your social media posts, it is important to think about how it will resonate with your audience. One of the ways to make a lasting impact is to put thought into what you are posting. Don’t simply post something to get your name out there. Sure, that’s important, but take the time to make your posts relevant, engaging and meaningful.
5. Pay Attention to the Data
Many, if not all, social media outlets provide important data regarding analytics and who is coming into contact with your content.
Do not ignore this information!
This data can be significantly helpful when deciphering what techniques you should use. If the numbers show a specific technique is drawing more views and enagement, you should consider doing that more often. On the other hand, if analytics show less people are engaging with you, perhaps it’s time to adjust your tactics.
Although the decline in organic reach has been decreasing for quite some time, that is no reason for you to become discouraged. There are ways to overcome this decline. Changes won’t happen overnight, but it’s important to know your audience and platform, consider creating a budget, keep posting and pay attention to you numbers!
