After reading the chapter, answer the following questions:

1. How and why did the Cowboys' team change from the '60s to the '90s?

2. Why would a football team's image be important to maintain?

3. Do you agree with the author's statement that the team is an extension of the coach's personality? Give an example that supports your answer.

4. Give an example of how leaders attract people like themselves from your own industry or area of service.

Rate your own leadership by placing the number 1, 2, or 3 next to each of the following statements: 1=Never 2=Sometimes 3=Always

50-60-This is an area of strength. Continue growing as a leader but also spend time helping others to develop in this area.

40-49-This area may not be hurting you as a leader, but it isn't helping you much either. To strengthen your leadership, develop yourself in this area.

20-39-This is an area of weakness in your leadership. Until you grow in this area, your leadership effectiveness will be negatively impacted.

Answer the following questions and discuss your answers when you meet with your mentoring group.

2. Give an example of how background can attract people to certain companies.

3. How have the six common-ground areas played a part in the makeup and growth of your organization?

4. Which of the common-ground areas has the strongest draw in deciding whom you follow? Explain.

5. Which of the common ground areas so you find attracts the most people to you? Give an example.

6. How has your ability to attract others positively or negatively affected your leadership?

7. How can you work to become a more magnetic leader?
